ROOTING: WHAT IS IT AND ITS USES

You must have heard about rooting. While going through different sites and blogs about your cellphone, you must have come across this word a lot. You must be wondering what this word means and why is it such a big deal in rooting one's android phone. So today I am going to tell you about rooting and about it's advantages and disadvantages.

What is Rooting?

Rooting means gaining privileged control or gaining root access. This can be compared to the Administrative user in a computer. You have access to all the files and can install or delete any file or folder on your system. Similarly rooting gives you the control of installing and deleting any application etc. on your android phone.

Terminology:

Bootloader:
The Bootloader is basically a part where the phones' software is installed. This basically runs before the os of your phone.

KERNAL:
The kernal is basically a bridge between the operating system and the hardware i.e. your android and the hardware of your cellphone/tablet. It controls your memory and hardware.

NAND PARTITION:
NAND stands for 'Negative And' or Not And'. It is that part of the harddrive that stores all the system related stuff like bootloader, kernel etc.

RECOVERY MODE:
Recovery mode let's you to do many things like formatting your phone, backing-up your phone, installing custom ROM's(explained later) etc. Recovery modes like ClockWorkMod are more functional and easier to use than stock recovery mode.

 CUSTOM ROM:
A custom ROM, in simple words, is a modified version of android for your phone with added functionality. This custom ROM may also come with a newer version of android which is not officially released for your cellphone.

 Types Of ROMs:
 1) Nightly:
Generated every 24hours, this type of custom ROMs are highly unstable with many vital functions misssing. At the same time, all the latest functions are incorporated.
2) Release Candidate:
These are quite stable versions of a ROM having most of the functions working properly.
3) Stable:
These ROMs, as the name suggests, are the most stable and final version having most the functionalities apart from certain minor issues.

BRICK:
Bricking your phone means end of the world(Literally). Bricking may happen when you instal a defected or incomplete ROM. If you brick your phone, it is irreversibly damaged and is only good as a paperweight. So don't let your phone to get bricked by reading each and every instruction properly.

HOW TO ROOT?
