MARKETING MYTHS IN THE TELEVISION WORLD-DON'T BE FOOLED

Marketing of a product is a nice way to inform consumers about it. But marketing is only nice till it is done in a good sense. If it becomes offensive then it carries along with it all kinds of lies and myths which provide wrong information to the end consumer.
Sadly, this is what is happening in the television market woth companies spreading all kinds of myths among the consumers and for their salesmen too.
In this post I would try to remove some of the myths in the same

Contrast ratio:
First of all contrast ratio is the ratio of the whitest pixel to the blackest pixel. This is a great factor in deciding the quality of the television(display). Higher the contrast ratio, better is the television.
This might seem as a very good benchmark for judging which tv is better but sadly this is easier said than done. The problem is that there is no standard for calculating contrast ratios and so every tv manufacturer can put any contrast ratio on it's tvs'. So by looking at these figures, we may not judge any television set. The best way is to read reviews or experience the television yourself.

Refresh Rates:
Refresh rate refers to the the number of frames displayed by a display per second.
Now LCDs have a problem with motion resolution. The image might seem blury when objects move on screen. One way to combat this is by increasing the refresh rate and hence 120/240Hz.
Plasma HDTVs don't have this issue with motion and therefore don't need a higher refresh rate. So they don't need to "catch up" with a higher refresh rate.

Recharge:
Plasma HDTVs do not need to be recharged.
Burn-in/Image retention:
All TVs can get burn-in. Only plasmas don't have this problem. Also this is not permanent. It can be removed by watching something else for some time.

Energy Efficiency:
It's true that LED LCDs are generally more efficient than CCFL LCDs and Plasmas. Ofcourse you may save energy if you buy one of these but if you are just aiming to save some money then you should reconsider your choice. The amount of money saved over the years won't be equal to the premium paid for an LED-LCD when compared to a Plasma.

VIEWING ANGLES:
IPS LCD have somewhat better viewing angles than the other LCDs but still lose contrast and colour reproduction. To know more read my post about HD DISPLAYS EVERYWHERE
