Samsung Galaxy S5 Unveiled


Samsung has unveiled the all new member of the Galaxy Series, the Samsung Galaxy S5. The phone is a successor of the Galaxy S4 and has quite a lot changes from the previous version. Here are some initial impressions of the device along with the specifications announced at the Unpacked 2014 event.

The Hardware, Connectivity and Software:

The Galaxy S5 is a powerhouse of a device with the latest from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 800 powering it. This is coupled with 2GB of RAM, which feels a little less when compared to the 3GB RAM on the Note 3. Having said that, the device is pretty powerful and should blaze through any task given to it. It comes with a 2800 mAh battery which according to Samsung would last for 12 hours of video playback.
                          

                                The phone comes with 16 or 32 GB of internal storage options along with expandability through micro-sd card of upto 64GB. It also comes with a micro USB 3.0 port which would facilitate faster transfer speeds.

                                The Galaxy S5 would be shipped with Android 4.4 Kitkat along with the latest version of Touchwiz UI which has some new features. One such feature is the Ultra Power Saving Mode in which, according to Samsung, the phone would last 24 hours on standby when only 10% battery is left. This would be done by changing the display to black and white and leaving only basic functions like call and messaging available.

                                The Galaxy S5 comes with 4G LTE connectivity which supports 8 Bands. Also it supports Wifi Mimo(802.11ac) which gives faster connections. Last but not the least, the S5 comes with a fast download mode which combines the Wifi and LTE connectivity to download data, making downloads very fast.

The Display:

The display on the Galaxy S5 is 5.1 inch Full HD Super AMOLED display. It also comes with adaptive display technology which helps the display go super bright under sunlight and super dark in very low light, thus helping one to view the phone properly in all lighting conditions.

The Camera:Ultra Fast Autofocus

The Galaxy S5 has a 16 MP primary and 2.1 MP secondary camera. This is coupled along with a separate image processing chip which helps the phone to have ultra fast auto focus. Samsung claims that the S5 can focus in 0.3 secs. Samsung also claims of having an advances HDR mode which captures shots really fast. Also HDR is appplicable to videos in this device. The camera also features selected focus which helps users to focus a particular area while blurring the rest. Along with all this, the camera can also capture 4K videos.

Fingerprint, HR scanner and IP67 :

The Galaxy S5 features a fingerprint scanner which lets the user to lock certain data and media files which can only be accessed when the user scans his or her finger print. This also facilitates one tough payments without the hassle of entering in details or passwords repeatedly. 
                     This device also features a Heart Rate scanner which is also a first in any smartphone. According to Samsung, this is utilized by S Health and a trainer app which lets users monitor their workouts.
                      The phone also cones with an IP67 certification which makes it dust and water resistant. This is certainly a plus as this would save the phone from those occasional spills and rain.
Price and Availability:

Samsung did not reveal the price of the Galaxy S5 but did reveal the release date of the same. The phone would be available from the 11th of April 2014 in more than 150 countries across the globe.
