RAM VS ROM AND OPTIMUM AMOUNT OF RAM

RAM and ROM are the two basic things constituting a computer or mobile system. These are required by any system for it's basic working. Having optimum amount of RAM is very important for the smooth working of a device. Most people confuse between RAM and ROM. So, read on to get a clear picture of what RAM and ROM are and to know the difference between the same.

Know the difference. Then jump straight to the optimal amount of RAM

RAM:

RAM stands for Random Access Memory. In simple words RAM is the memory allocated to your device which all the ongoing tasks use. Basically it is the amount of memory which can be used to run a program.

Let us assume the the box below is the amount of ram you have.

RAM explained

This is the amount of free space you have.
Now, the items below represent different tasks.

Now you want to put all of these figures in the box. The bigger the box is, the easier it is to to fill these inside the box. If you have a small box, then not all the figures would fit in the box. RAM in the same way, accommodates all the tasks you run on your computer or mobile phones. Higher the RAM, more are the no. of active programs that you may run simultaneously. Hope you get an idea of what is the use of RAM.

ROM:

ROM stands for read-only memory. This is simply the amount of space available on your device to install and keep applications, media, messages, etc.
This is basically the amount of free space for keeping the files of your applications. In computers you generally have 500GB or 1TB(or likewise) of space. This is the free space for simply keeping the files and storing media. Likewise, on mobile phones you generally have  4gb, 8gb etc. Internal storage. This is the ROM which is used to store the data of the apps, games etc. you download on your cell phone.

While buying a new cell phone or computer, keep in mind that more ram translates to a smoother user experience while more ROM translates to more data i.e. media, files etc. can be stored. So according to your needs, choose what you want more in your device.

OPTIMUM RAM:

The least amount of RAM required for the smooth operation of a cell phone is 1GB( or atlest 512MB if your budget is low).Having lesser RAM than this can bug you a lot and wont provide you with a smooth user experience(taking of android os).
For a computer/laptop, the amount of ram required depends on usage patterns. If you are a casual user with mostly browsing the web, 2GB RAM is good enough but if you also like playing some casual games, 4GB of RAM is enough.I would suggest that go for atleast 4GB of RAM so as to keep your system a bit future proof. But if you play a lot of high-end games then 8GB of RAM is required. Go for 16GB or higher RAM only when you are in a lot of video editing and stuff like that. Note that for gaming and editing, and good Graphic Processor is also required besides ample amount of RAM.

Hope you got the difference between RAM and ROM. These are totally different as explained above. If you found this post helpful, please come back for more such kind of posts.
