LED-LCD VS LCD VS PLASMA TELEVISIONS

The modern day Televisions are basically have three different display technologies namely led-lcd, lcd and plasma. Know more about these three in my previous post about different display technologies.
Now continuing from the previous post, in this post I am going to carry out a direct comparison between the three types of televisions.

 SCREEN SIZE:
Led-lcd, lcd tvs range from very small scren size(that in a cellphone) to even 90 inches and above. On the other hand plasma tv's are generally from 42 to 65 inches. LIGHT

OUTPUT:
Light output is the amount of light given out by the tv panel. It is basically the brightness of the panel. No doubt that led-lcds are the brightest out there. What this means for you is that you will be able to watch tv without any issues even if your room is highly lit with alot of ambient light. Though this may seem very advantageous, still this may also become a problem in light sealed rooms as this may cause eye fatigue. When it comes to Plasma tvs, the light output is simply not as bright as it's counterparts. This does not mean that these are useless in daylight. These are bright enough for you to watch it in your room without any problems but they are not close the others' brightness. This has its own advantage. In low lighting conditions, these are much easier to watch and are much easier on the eye. LCDs are mid-way the other two. So you may decide for yourself, which is better for you according to the lighting conditions in your room.

BLACK LEVEL AND CONTRAST LEVEL:
Black level are the best in plasmas though led-lcds are not far behind. Contrast ratio basically refers to the difference in the brightest and darkest part of the image, i.e. the difference between the brightest possible pixel and the darkest possible pixel. This also influences the overall picture output. The higher is the contrast ratio, the better and more natural the picture appears. The sad part is that there is no standard for measuring a tvs contrast ratio and so tv companies come up with insane contrast ratios thus making the choice of a tv more difficult. Look out for my future post in which I would decode all the marketting gimmicks.

VIEWING ANGLE:
Plasmas have the best viewing angle among the three. Both of the others loose picture quality when viewed from a different position than face-on. IPS panels offer better viewing angles but with reduced black levels and thus contrast ratio.

LIFESPAN,ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND PRICE:
Each of the three have similar lifespan. LED-LCD consumes lesser energy than the other two, but the difference is very less and cannot be a gamechanger/deal-breaker for any. CCFL-LCDs are the cheapest followed by Plasmas and LED-LCD.

So you may decide for yourself, which is the best kind of television for your needs. If you watch a lot of stuff in complete daylight or in very high ambient lighting system. Similarly if you want the best black levels and use your tv in a relatively dim room then go for plasmas. Look out for my future post in which I am going to tell you about the myths spread by different companies in the television world and help you find the best television for you.
