LG has been competing in the mid-range cellphones market quite vigorously over the past couple of years. It has been consistently launching cellphones in it's L series of smartphones which are essentially mid-range phones. This year, the things have changed a bit with the launch of the super popular Motorola Moto G. The highly popular phone changed the shape of the market with it's really high price to performance ratio. To combat this, LG has recently launched the LG L90 smartphone which is essentially a mid-range smartphone launched to disrupt the success of the Moto G. Lets see whether this phone can really shake the market again or is it just another fail from a tier-1 company.

Design and Build:
Probably the worst aspect of the LG L90 is it's design. LG has followed the same design language from it's previous mid-range phone like the LG L7, L5 etc. The phone comes with a rubber back which seems dated. The design overall is not very convincing and it seems that LG has cut the corners by not paying the designers.
All said and done, the rubber back does provide nice grip to the phone. The phone comes with not three but four capacitive touch type button, the fourth one being for switching between the sims(yes it has dual sim card support). Another con here is that these buttons are not backlit. Though the design isn't anything to boast about, the build quality of the phone is really nice. The plastics used are of high quality and the phone feels sturdy in the hand. All in all, the phone seems like it would last long.
RATING : 7/10
Display:
The LG L90 has a 4.7 inch display with a qHD (540*960) resolution giving the phone a pixel density of 234 ppi. Though the pixel density may sound low, the screen quality is good with decent viewing angles. The display is also ample for the media-hungry people. At the same time, the screen size is not very big, making the phone a comfortable one to handle and operate with one hand. Outdoor usage of the phone is also possible without any hiccups due the ample brightness of the screen. One little con here is that the auto-brightness sensor is missing. So you would need to adjust the brightness manually. But given the fact that cheaper phones like Moto G provides a stunning HD display is a bit of a bummer. Still the screen should suffice most as it is more than usable.
RATING: 7.5/10
Hardware:
The LG L90 comes with a 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. This hardware combination was made popular by the Moto G and can now be seen in many mid-range phones. The GPU is also the same as on the Moto G, the Adreno 305. This combination of hardware gives enough power to the device to run properly and operate without any lags. The hardware combination is very capable and can even run high graphic demanding applications. The internal memory is just 8 GB out of which only about 4 GB is available. But to combat this, a micro sd card slot is available in the device. Some apps can be moved to the external sd card which is a good thing. So storage should not be a problem though, people who love to store many high-end games together may face a bit of a problem. Another con is that the phone does not support usb otg.
RATING : 8/10
Software:
The LG L90 comes with Android Kitkat 4.4 out of the box. The phone comes with a custom LG skin over the stock android. This adds a lot of features with added functionality. Though this is the case, the custom skin does not effect the performance of the phone at all. The UI is smooth with all the transitions being seamless. The skin is very refined and is properly optimised for the phone. The phone performs well in day to day tasks and the overall performance is quite smooth. The LG skin also enables additional features like "QSlide" apps which are apps which can opened and run over the other apps. This enables the users to use two apps at a time. These can be quickly accessed from the notification bar. All in all, the LG skin provides a better user experience.
RATING : 8/10
Camera:
The camera on the LG L90 is an 8 MP shooter with LED flash. The secondary camera is just a VGA camera. Coming to the quality, the L90 performs well in this department and can be considered to produce above average results. Keeping in mind that this is a mid-range phone, the camera performance is acceptable. The pictures produces by the phone are quite nice in daylight and outdoor lighting. The pictures come out to be sharp with good colour reproduction. The pictures are quite good and this phone can be used for taking casual photos. The indoor and low light pictures taken from the phone turned out to be average for this kind of a device. The flash worked fine for me given ample light to the subject. The front facing camera is just a VGA camera and it does not perform well in my opinion. Again, just like the Sony Xperia M2, it is just average and certainly cannot be used for "selfies".
RATING : 8/10

Gaming:
The LG L90 has an Adreno 305 GPU along with 1GB of RAM. This combination is really capable of running all the games smoothly on the phone. Ranging from small games like Subway Surfer, Temple Run etc. to some heavy games like Real Racing 3, Asphalt 8 etc., all run on the phone without any issues. The games run smoothly without any lags. The only con here is that the phone has just 8 GB of internal storage which might not be enough for some people who like to keep many high end and heavy games on their devices. Though the phone supports a micro sd card, sadly not all apps cannot be moved to it. So this might be an issue for some people. One good thing about that the phone does not get heated while playing games.
RATING: 8.5/10
Battery Life and Connectivity:
The battery on the LG L90 is a 2540 mAh user-replacable battery. The battery life is one of the best across all android smartphones. To give you an idea about the same, the battery life on the phone is comparable to, or even better that of the Moto G. The phone can power through a day's work without any problem and can stretch to 1.5 days with normal usage. Thus, battery life is not an issue for the phone.
The phones supports 3G, Wifi, dual sim and accepts "normal" mini sim. The wifi speeds are good and the call quality is also nice.
RATING : 9.5/10
Additional Features:
The phones comes with many additional software features like Knock On features which are essentially unlocking ways and different ways of securing the phones. The phone also comes with an IR Blasters which enables the phone to become a remote for devices like a television, dvd playes etc.
OVERALL RATING : 8/10
Conclusion:
The Lg L90 certainly packs a punch with a good display, nice hardware and well optimised software. The added functionality in the software is a big advantage. The good camera and good gaming capabilities further help it's cause. The amazing battery life is a cherry on the cake. The only downside is the design of the phone and certain minor cons. So if you want a good overall device with nifty software features for Rs 16,000 then you may seriously consider this phone. But if you cannot live with these cons then you may consider other options like the Motorola Moto G or the Sony Xperia M2.

Decent Gaming and
